Within the framework of the thirteenth United Nations Biodiversity Conference held from December 4 to 17 in Cancún, Mexico, Barranquilla+20 included the participation of Xiomara Acevedo and Dora Tafur, who were part of the youth delegation. COP13It is driven by the Convention on Biological Diversity, comprised of 196 states and the European Union. At this meeting, more than 10,000 participants gather to negotiate agreements that promote the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.

The purpose of our visit was to amplify the voices of young people for biodiversity conservation and, at the same time, to acquire knowledge to strengthen our work at the local level; we need to make greater efforts to promote the value of biodiversity and raise awareness among the inhabitants of the planet about it.

As biodiversity declines, we weaken nature's ability to provide the vital services we require – clean water, fresh air, food and a stable climate – all of which are essential for human survival.

During the working sessions, considerable progress was observed, reflecting a growing awareness of the challenges of biodiversity protection. While significant challenges remain, the outlook for achieving more of the Aichi Targets is very encouraging.

Finally, with the establishment of a roadmap by 196 countries to integrate the agricultural, fishing, forestry and tourism sectors in environmental protection and the pursuit of sustainable development.
