From Barranquilla,+20, we have worked to defend the Ciénaga de Mallorquín, the fifth largest wetland in Colombia and home to 146 species of birds. Its biological wealth is in danger by the major pollution at the local level. The National Radio of Colombia invited us to talk about the environmental problems that are presented in the swamp. The interview was conducted by Joseph David Oquendo Warrior, and intervened Hector Cabarcas and Nancy Sanchez who live in the surroundings of the swamp and you know it like the palm of your hand. In addition, he participated Melissa Obregon Lebolo, who is part of the network of Women for Climate Justice and Sheryn Yidi, Communications Coordinator of Barranquilla,+20.
The first meeting of women, feminists and environmentalists, “Summit of Women for Climate Justice” organized by the Barranquilla+20 in the framework of Generation Equality, developed different strategies of national advocacy for gender justice and climate justice. The meeting took place in the city of Bogotá D. C. and was also broadcast a virtual streaming. Female participants from departments such as the Atlantic, Nariño, Norte de Santander, Cauca, La Guajira, Caldas, Guainía, Antioquia, Chocó, Huila, Cundinamarca, among others.
Xiomara Acevedo, was speaking on national radio of Colombia on the importance of the conservation of ecosystems and biodiversity in our department of the Atlantic. In addition, he told about the work of Barranquilla,+20, and the projects of “Guardians of Bocas de Cenizas”, “Mallorcan Live” and in the Atlantic for the SDGS”.
